SAO PAULO, March 17 (Xinhua) -- One person died and over 100 others were hospitalized with food poisoning after eating at a pizzeria in Pombal, northeastern Brazil's Paraiba state, local health authorities said Tuesday.
A 44-year-old woman died though she was admitted to Pombal Regional Hospital on Monday, according to the municipal health department.
More than 100 people sought medical attention after experiencing similar symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and general malaise. All reported having eaten at the same restaurant on Sunday night.
According to health authorities, only an eight-year-old child remains hospitalized to date.
The pizzeria was temporarily shuttered by the health inspection service, which collected food samples for analysis. ■
